Chinese and other Asian dragons are different from European dragons. The two types have some things in common. They are both depicted as reptiles and have scales. Chinese dragon drawing tends to be more serpent-like than European ones, however. They have long snake-like bodies, though they walk on legs. Unlike European versions, most Chinese dragons do not have wings. Chinese legends told that these beasts were very powerful, and could control the weather. As a result, dragon art was used as a symbol of power.

Dragon tattoos have long been popular, and are getting more attention thanks to a new series of books and movies. Swedish author Stieg Larsson wrote a book that was translated into English as "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo." The best-selling book is the beginning of a trilogy that is being adapted into movies. Most tattoo artists can ink a dragon image, but if you learn how to draw a dragon you can create your own unique design no one else will have!

Once you learn the basics, you can use these steps to draw cartoon dragons.

When you've mastered drawing dragon bodies and features, you can use them to create artwork inspired by favorite animated movies or television shows, or to come up with cartoon monsters that are completely original. In addition to "The Hobbit," these fire-breathers have appeared in such cartoons as "How to Train Your Dragon" and the classic "Pete’s Dragon." You can also use an Asian-style approach if you would like to learn how to draw "Dragon Ball Z" artwork and create a cartoon version of a more snake-like creature.

From ancient legends to modern fantasy stories, the variety of these monsters is endless. In addition to Chinese dragons, for example, Asian varieties also include Japanese dragons, Indian dragons and more, each with their own distinctive features.
